Hearts struggle in Lisbon

Hearts’ Europa League aspirations were effectively dismantled in a 6-1 loss to Benfica. Motherwell hold firm in Helsinki

Motherwell continued their positive start under manager Alfred Johansson, earning a 1-1 draw away to HJK Helsinki. Tawanda Maswanhise converted a penalty just after the hour mark to put the Steelmen ahead, though Teemu Pukki leveled for the Finnish side shortly after entering the pitch. Motherwell will now look to capitalize on home advantage in the second leg, with a potential play-off against Freiburg awaiting the winners.

Injury concerns and tactical outlook

While the results provide a clear path forward for Hibernian and Motherwell, the latter faces personnel uncertainty after Alex Lowry and Regan Charles-Cook sustained injuries during the closing stages of their match in Finland. The upcoming second legs will determine which clubs progress to the play-off rounds of their respective competitions.
